Over the past month, Yellowbox has launched new smart lockers at popular beaches, leisure and aquatic centres within Sydney. Through a partnership with Randwick City Council, Yellowbox has rolled out its new smart locker technology, fit for aquatic, leisure, beach and change room environments.
Yellowbox is a network of smart-lockers that can be accessed through a simple app, available on iOS and Android.
Traditionally, the app allows users to choose a size and open the Yellowbox locker using their phone and bluetooth as a remote.
Although when users want to swim, they also want to store their phone. So the Yellowbox team designed a keypad and gave the ability for users to pre-set a code through their phone, used to unlock the locker if they choose to store their phone.
Here is how it works.
The app based system also means monetisation can occur through the app, creating a ticketless, waitless and cashless experience. The solution was designed to suit aquatic and leisure environments in terms of durability and usability, with self-serve and in-app support mechanisms to ensure onsite staff do not need to tend to the lockers.
“Yellowbox lockers are one of the most visible smart city initiatives we’ve done for residents and visitors to our beaches and aquatic centres. Residents love the ability to reserve a locker in advance and swim without having to worry about their belongings. They can even lock their phone away and open with a PIN, meaning more swimming.”
Anthony Collis, Smart Cities Lead at Randwick City Council
The Yellowbox team has developed the technology with flexibility in mind, with the ability to retrofit existing lockers. Thus, existing locker systems can be upgraded to provide an improved, customer focused experience.
For facility managers, the smart locker system also provides the council with visibility over usage of the lockers, through a custom Managers App.
